Andrew Ludwig 2011 True Sport Award

 

At the club Presentation Day on Sunday Ignacio Jimenez was awarded the coveted Andrew Ludwig True Sport Award. In 2009 we lost one this clubs greatest ever athletes and friend in Andrew Ludwig. We wanted to come up with a way of both remembering and paying a fitting tribute to Andrew for his long time contribution to the club and to race walking in Queensland.

 

The club came up with an Award that was open to everyone in the club. Athlete, coach, official, administrator, or volunteer. We looked no further than Andrew to come up with the criteria. The values that Andrew lived his life by in loyalty, respect of others, attitude & commitment, hard work, sportsmanship & integrity. These are the core values of our club culture even though everyone loves to win. The heart of everything we do each Sunday morning is to provide a fun, safe and fair environment where everyone can learn, race and excel. The initial award winner was Robyn Wales.

 

Iggy has served the club with distinction for over twenty years as an athlete and has won more Open State road & track walk titles than any other walker. Iggy has served on the Management Committee and as Club Treasurer and has for many years been the club webmaster. He has designed and printed many of the club documents from handbooks, participation certificates, business cards & flyers and did the artwork for our club pergola. Iggy has always been willing to offer assistance to other walkers and is always on hand to lend assistance where needed in any club activity. Iggy has also served as a club sports trainer and first aid officer.
